Lynne Ann Bartells, 67, of Madison, WI passed away on Monday December 24, 2012 at UW Hospital after a long courageous battle with Leukemia. Dear family and friends surrounded her bedside. She was born April 2, 1945 to Elmer and Lucile (Peterson) Bartells of Portage, WI. She graduated from Portage High School and went on to UW Oshkosh then to UW Madison where she graduated. The focus of Lynne's career always was to the benefit of others; from starting as a teacher in Chicago to working at a correctional facility for women and ending up at the State of WI Department of Natural Resources. Here is where she retired from and made many lifelong friends. Making friends was one of Lynne's best talents. She was not a stranger to anyone. People often said she could make friends in a checkout line.
Lynne married Greg Schultz in 1978 and gained two beautiful daughters. The marriage ended but a special bond was built between Lynne and the two girls. She raised them with a loving heart and open arms that only a true mother can. She felt blessed when she became a grandmother. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow and loved to teach them some of life's lessons, especially the importance of education.
She lived life to the fullest and traveled the world with a particular love of Europe. Politics were an important part of her life and she volunteered often for the Democratic Party. Lynne was also an avid gardener and belonged to a garden club in Madison. She could not wait to get out in her gardens and get her hands dirty.
She is survived by her daughters Heidi (Scott) Irwin of Chippewa Falls and Angela Schad of Madison, fiancé Harold (Mac) McGranahan of Linden, brother Jim (Rosy) Bartells of Three Lakes, 6 grandchildren, and her two beloved dogs Wolfgang and Victoria Grace. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Lucille Bartells, her aunts Thelma Wilde and Irene Epftein, son-in-law Gerald Schad and her two dogs Muffin and Dexter.
Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in memory of Lynne Bartells.
A celebration of life will take place on January 5th, 2013 at Wah Kee Restaurant located at 600 Williamson St. Madison WI, 53703 from 2pm to 5pm.
Lynne was a great friend, mom and grandmother and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
It was an honor to have met Lynne at a Ducks Unlimited State Convention several years ago and we remained in touch through emails. She struck me as a special lady.
My sympathies to her close friends and family .
Lynne-I will miss many things, as our lives as next door neighbors were quite entwined on a daily basis. I will miss knowing you were there- with your bedroom window right next to mine. You were often in your PJ's reading the newspaper cover to cover or watching TV. I will miss trading gardening advice, pruning each others plants, trading homemade food, yard sales and walking your Yorkies, Wolfie and Tory early in the morning. May you rest, (after so many health challenges), in peace.
Lynn- you will be dearly missed by your friends and family. You had touched so many people and I for one feel very blessed to have had the pleasure of meeting you. You are in heaven now in peace and are looking down on us and will be an angel on your girls shoulders. I am sure you were very proud of your daughters as they are to have a had mother with you. Your Truly- Shelly (angie's friend)
