Shirley " Marie" Rollman

April 22, 1942 — January 7, 2021

Shirley (“Marie”) Rollman, age 78, passed away on January 7, 2021 under the care of Heartland Hospice. Marie bravely battled Multiple Sclerosis for over 35 years and spent the last several years as a resident of Crossroads Care Center, Sun Prairie, under the compassionate care of its amazing staff.

Marie was born on April 22, 1942 in Baltimore, MD to Robert R. and Viola A. (Weinberger) King.  She attended St. Dominic’s Catholic School and graduated from Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1963.  Marie met Lt. William (Bill) Rollman of Coshocton, OH on a blind date and they were married on January 11, 1964 in a noontime ceremony at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church.  After an afternoon luncheon, the newlyweds were off on their honeymoon to Wisconsin where Marie was introduced to the unofficial Wisconsin winter pastime of ice fishing.

The family moved many times, first for Bill’s Naval career and after leaving Active Duty, for his job at GTE (now Verizon).  Marie’s nursing profession provided both the flexibility and opportunity to continue her nursing career while helping all settle in.  She worked in many different clinical settings, but the Operating Room (OR) was her favorite.  She ended her nursing career in the OR at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau WI.

In her spare time, Marie sewed, knitted, gardened and was a chaperone on many of her children’s school trips. Her favorite hobbies were playing the piano, her weekly bowling league (as a “lefty” she always said she was the only person in their “right” mind), a righteous game of Sheepshead, the annual Knights of Columbus bus trip to Green Bay for the Packer Bishops Charities game (where she always “volunteered” to make her homemade potato salad for 100!) and summertime camping and fishing trips to Canada, where she always made sure everything was packed, readied and in order.

Marie is survived by her daughters Diane (Terry) Wendt Jr. of Sun Prairie; Barbara (Daniel) Brozek of Fall River; and Michelle (Jason) Martin of Minocqua.  Further survivors include her grandchildren Jessica, Eric, Ashley (fiancé Corbin Ross), Danielle, Jade and Elizabeth; sisters-in-law Eleanor King, Mary Tracy, Ann Rollman and Ginny Rollman; brothers-in-law Walter Dashiell and Tom Rollman as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents Robert and Viola King, father and mother-in-law Melvin and Ellen Rollman, brother Rowland King, sister Patricia King Dashiell, brother-in-law Joseph Tracy, brother-in-law Gary Rollman and infant son Michael.

Due to Covid 19, a private family service will be held. Burial will be alongside her husband at St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Chilton, WI.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Wisconsin in Marie’s name.
