Philip Werner

October 17, 1952 — September 28, 2021

Philip William Werner passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 28, 2021, at Saint Mary’s Hospital.  In life, Phil remained true to his gentle and generous spirit, as a dutiful son, loving husband, adoring father, nurturing colleague, and faithful friend. The youngest son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Tormey) Werner, he was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Church where he attended grade school. He continued his education at Edgewood High School.  Phil obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and his master’s degree from the University of Minnesota.  He worked for the State of Wisconsin for 40 years.  On May 26, 1990, he married the love of his life Janice Antoniewicz, and together had two children, their beloved daughter Mary and son, Mark.  They formed more than simple household, but rather forged a family bond based on love, respect, and true friendship.

Janice nee Antoniewicz , Mary (Maxwell) and Mark (Hunter), survive their cherished husband and father as do his brother, Richard (Kathleen), nieces Nicole (Jeremy) Pierre, Mary Beth (Todd) Ragsdale, Bridgette Werner, Melissa (Chris) Moline and Emily (Josh) Ross; nephews Basil (Pam), Bill (Susie), Stephen, Jr., Gregory, Michael (Jess), Matthew (Herve), Christopher (Nick), Brian (Kate); mother-in-law, Rita Antoniewicz; sisters-in-law Sylvia Werner, Jacki Werner, Theresa Werner and Mary (Dan) Repischak; brothers-in-law Alan (Linda) Antoniewicz, and Brian (Julie) Antoniewicz; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Thomas, Stephen and David, nephew Jeffrey Werner, sister-in-law Mary Flo Werner and father-in-law, Ervin Antoniewicz.

Phil possessed the singular ability to transform the simple events of living into joyful celebrations.  He accomplished this through abundant love.  Because he loved so much, people loved him and loved to be with him.  He was the glue that kept family and a vast network of friends connected. In retirement, his love found expression in volunteer work at the Ronald McDonald House and other charities.  Phil loved his family, friends, the Beatles and fishing. In death, he had no fear because he knew the love of God in his heart.  As Phil’s friends and family mourn their loss, they will forever “think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.”

His family would like to express a special thanks Dr. John McDermott and Brother Edward, O.P., two friends, who shared their constant love and support to Phil in his final illness.  For the outstanding medical care given by Dr. Tim Crummy, the family is most grateful.
