Patricia Marshall

August 19, 1935 — September 18, 2022

Madison

Madison- Patricia Ann Marshall, aged 87, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2022 at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. She was surrounded by the stories and the love of her family in the days leading up to her passing. She was born August 19, 1935, in Appleton, WI. The eighth child or Frank and Flora  Gresenz Peotter, and the only child in the family to be born in a hospital. Patsy (Patricia) spent her childhood in Appleton, fishing with her dad and cooking alongside her mom. On June 30, 1956, after a whirlwind courtship, Patricia married James Grant Marshall Jr. Their two sons, John and Jim, were born during the early years of their marriage, with their daughters Heather and Sarah coming a few years later.

Patricia often said it was her relationships with others that made her feel like she mattered. She loved spending time with her children and their spouses, treasured her nine grandchildren, and found deep joy in being the great grandmother of seven. She spoke fondly of her relationships with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pat loved spending time with friends on Friday mornings at coffee, at the tavern for a burger, knitting with the Knit Wits and sharing meaningful conversations with lifelong friends who would be there with each other through thick and thin.

Pat was a magnificent cook, loved to bake, and made custard and caramel corn like no one else. She often showed her love for others through the food she created. Pat had the gift of hospitality and loved lit candles and a beautifully set table. Pat found peace gardening in her yard and could never pass up a flower that was on sale. She took great pride in the geraniums she would winter over year after year. Pat loved to travel, especially her “roman holidays” down rustic roads with her husband Jim. Pat served others through her gift of encouragement, her numerous volunteer roles, and the endless cards she sent to others to let them know they mattered to her. She was always offering to help.

Patricia will be missed in ways we are only now beginning to realize. Patricia is survived by her children John Grant Marshall Sr. and his wife Julia (Braucht), James Grant Marshall III and his wife Margaret (Fruth), Heather Marshall Watts and her husband Dan, and Sarah Marshall Hasselkus and her husband John. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; Grant (Jennifer) Marshall and their children August, Hazel and Boden, Alex (Liz) Marshall and their daughter Miriam, Lucas (Stephanie) Marshall and their children Lincoln and Ella, Alyssa (Josh) Kaiser, Natalie (Ian) Yogus and their daughter Roe, Jessica Watts, Megan Watts, Carolyn Hasselkus and Julia Hasselkus. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband James Grant Marshall Jr, her parents Frank and Flora Peotter, and her seven siblings.
