Nancy Vogt

Nancy R. (Schumann) Vogt died Wednesday, January 20, 2021 in Fitchburg. She was born June 27, 1934 in Madison to Raymond H. and Irene E. (Clark) Schumann.  She was a 1952 graduate of West High School in Madison.  In 1955 she married William M. Day.  They divorced in 1963.  Nancy was employed at Wisconsin General Hospital, (now University Hospitals) as department secretary in neurosurgery, then as a medical assistant for Dr. George A. Berglund.  In 1963 she was hired by orthopedic surgeon George H. Vogt whom she married November 3, 1973.  Nancy was a former member of the Dane County Medical Assistants Association and past president of Dane County Medical Auxiliary.  She had a great interest in genealogy and is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) and the Mayflower Society.  She enjoyed singing and participated in two musicals with the Madison Theater Guild, The King and I and Camelot.  She was also a cast member of the medical auxiliary’s “The M.D. Show.”  She had served as an Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T.) for the Deer Grove EMS in the past.  Nancy and George enjoyed golf and were members of the Maple Bluff Country Club for many years where she served one year as president of the 18 Hole Women’s Association.  They were members of the Spruce Creek Country Club in Florida where they spent many winters.  George was a pilot and owned an airplane so Nancy took flying lessons becoming a pilot at age 47.  They had many flying adventures and also enjoyed traveling and gardening.

She is survived her daughter, Debra Stafford (Gus); five step-children: Allison Detra (Bill), Carol Lynn Kinsey, Leslie Woodward (Jeffrey), Gretchen Porten and William Vogt.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepson George S. Vogt, and her husband of 39 years, George.  She is further survived by grandchildren, Jonathan (Sarah), Hannah and Genevieve Stafford, step-grandchildren, Mariah Schoonover (Kurt), Callender Clough, Holly Kannady (Dan) and Austin Detra (Lauren); and step great-grandchildren, Weston and Harper Schoonover.

Services will be private.
