Judine Wood

Judine M. Wood, age 82, of Dane, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully, with her rosary in hand, on Nov. 20, 2021. She was born on Nov. 25, 1938, to John and Margaret (Karls) Statz and spent most of her life in Dane, WI. While she had many administrative jobs over the years, including working for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, the Stark Company, and in the Hayden, CO school district, she spent over 25 years at American Breeder Service (ABS). She was a fantastic cook and baker. She provided home cooked meals and treats for those in need or for those who simply craved her cooking. Judine was known for her patience, love, and guidance to the large Statz family tree and others who needed her help. She was a mom to all. What a wonderful legacy of love and kindness she leaves behind.

She was united in marriage to Albert W. Wood on Aug 23, 1979 and cherished her time with Bill until his death.  Judine is survived by her children, Michael (Sonya) Theis, and Jean (John) Steele; grandchildren, Ryan (Carrie) Theis, Sarah Hoffman, Margaret Steele, Ian Steele, Megan (Jeb) Simmons, Stacy (Trent) Simmons; and great-grandchildren, Maryah and Ryker Theis, Penelope and Simon Hoffman, Te’Hiva, Auhea, Nava, Harlo and Grey Simmons.

She is further survived by her brothers, Victor (Shirley), Robert (Henrietta), John (Bambi), Ronald (Cheryl), and Kenneth (Joyce) Statz; her sister, Marilyn (John) Hurtgen; and many nieces and nephews. Judine was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Albert and Signe Wood; and her siblings and in-laws, Elaine (Leonard) Ziegler, Betty (Joseph) Endres, Hilary (Celine), Philip (Irene), David (Darlene), and Sylvester Statz; and her former husband, Leroy J. Theis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Waunakee, WI on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dane, WI. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass. Masks will be required for attendance; however, the mass will also be livestreamed via the following link: www.stjb.org . A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

We would like to thank Judine’s siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews who provided her with much joy and love over the years and to her special friends, Terri Engel and Deb Laymon who kept her young, full of spirit and enjoyed many laughs. Further thanks to the emergency crew who came to our aid and to medical providers at St Mary’s Hospital cardiac ward for their compassion and support.
