Gliceria Fuller

December 21, 1928 — June 1, 2022

Middleton

Our loving Matriarch entered heaven peacefully on June 1, 2022. A tiny Filipina dynamo, who’s passion for life spanned five generations. Born and raised in the Bulacan Valley of the Philippines, the fifth of seven beautiful sisters. During World War II, she won the heart of one US Army soldier from Lodi, Wisconsin. She married James M. Fuller on June 6, 1946 in a village-wide ceremony. For her true love, she left the only home she’d ever known to start a life in Lodi and later in Baraboo.  James “Jim” and Gliceria “Sing” raised three daughters. Sing always had a welcoming spirit. She loved getting to know her many neighbors and always offered a warm meal and conversation. “Come sit,” was her catch phrase.

Being an immigrant with unrelenting determination, Sing achieved whatever she set her mind to. She became a US citizen in 1950 and was a proud and colorful American patriot. She was a member of the Philippine-American Association and the Women’s Auxiliary. She believed all people should be respected and have their voices heard.

Sing had many talents. She was an amazing seamstress and designer of illustrious and authentic gowns. Sing’s artistry also shined through her gardening. Her vast flower beds, shrubs and banana trees were unmatched in size and vibrancy. Sing’s youthfulness came from playing in the dirt! She also took great pride in watching all things grow, be it her perennials or her offspring. Her ingenuity and bright personality served her well as a Supervisor for Famous Footwear and lead sewer at Almet Manufacturing. She set the bar high with her immense work ethic.

Holidays and graduations were her favorite times to prepare, literally, a feast for the masses. She would cook the usual American dishes and everyone’s favorite Filipino dishes of lumpia and pansit.

Sing also cared deeply for her beloved pets. Her home was a safe place of unconditional love. We’ll miss her smile, hugs and kisses, prayers for us and her ability to speak her mind. She’s been a strong, faithful, resilient woman for 94 years and after battling dementia she’s earned this rest. All of us promise to take care of each other and thank Mom/Grandma for giving so much of herself.

Gliceria is reunited with her husband, James, special friend Ken Wright, sons; Jamie and Gerald, daughter; Cyndi, sisters; Remy, Josefina, and Delores. She watches over daughters; Geri (Sherwood) Slager, Patricia Williams (Frank Alfaro), grandchildren; Tricia (James) Wirth, Becky (Sean) Spindler, Norris Crowe, Carla Williams (Ben Erdman), Allen Zautke (Haley Hartwell), Amber (Zach) Beloungy and eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Brookdale Senior Living in Middleton and Moments Hospice for their compassionate care of a one-of-a-kind lady.

A memorial service will be held at the Cress Center, 6021 University Avenue, Madison, on July 9th at 11:00 am. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
