Elizabeth Vinje

April 4, 1943 — April 20, 2023

Stoughton

Stoughton - Elizabeth "Betty" L Vinje, age 80, of Stoughton, WI, passed away peacefully on April 20th, 2023, at SSM Monroe Hospice Home. Betty was born on April 4, 1943, in Strawberry Point, IA, to the late Leander and Florence (Helen) Fischer.

On September 18, 1980, Betty married the love of her life, Theodore "Ted" Vinje. Together they shared many adventures, traveling in Ted's semi-truck and visiting yarn stores, where Ted would help Betty shop for yarn. They also enjoyed planting and harvesting tobacco on Ted's parents' farm in Deerfield.

Betty worked as a waitress for 14 years at N & I 90 restaurant and sewed for Serendipity for many years. Later in life, she also worked as a CNA for Harmony House Assisted Living. Betty had a kind heart and often helped out the neighbor kids with their home economics projects. She also offered clothing repair services for a little pocket change.

In her later years, Betty found joy in knitting and crocheting, creating hats, scarves, mittens, slippers, and other items for her loved ones as well as for donation to the church and hospitals. She also enjoyed making Dori bears for Hospice Homes.

Betty will be remembered for her exceptional baking skills, especially during the Christmas season. She was also known for her beautiful afghans, which she lovingly made for her family and friends.

Betty was a faithful church-goer and even when she couldn't attend in person, she enjoyed watching the service on television. She had a feisty attitude and loved to receive the same in return. Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodore, in 1986, and two great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters Ned, Rose, Bev, Joyce, and brother Leander (Butch).

She is survived by her two children, Duane (JR) Vinje (Kathie) and Brenda Shields (Michael); her grandchildren, Brooklynn, Josh, Elizabeth, Jonathon (Jacqui), Tiffany, Nicholas (Megan), and Justin; nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rita Downing and Jessie Coleman; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday April 28, 2023 at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 700 Hwy B, Stoughton with Rev. Paula Geister-Jones presiding.  A luncheon will follow the service and burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery South.  Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday April 27, 2023 at Church and also from 10:00 AM until the service on Friday at the church.

The family kindly requests donations in her memory be made to SSM Hospice in Monroe, WI, for their compassion and care during her final days.
