Allan Houser

Allan Charles Houser, age 86, of Madison passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at St Mary’s Hospital in Madison WI. He was born on January 5, 1934 in East Chicago, Indiana, to the late Arthur and Virginia Houser, oldest of four children. He grew up in Whiting IN, Alton, IL and Wood River, IL. He graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School in IL in 1952. Allan served our country in the United States Army for two years. He enjoyed learning and received a degree in Agriculture from Southern IL University, in 1960. He went onto graduate school at the University of Iowa where he met Lorraine J. Enzweiler. He and Lorraine were married on August 22, 1964 at Lorraine’s family church, St Liborius Church in Stegar, IL. Allan and Lorraine then moved onto Iowa State where Allan was trained as a Seed Analyst.

In 1967,  Allan became a Seed Analyst for the State of Wisconsin in Madison, WI, where he worked for 30 years. Allan and Lorraine built a life in Madison and were together for 55 ½ years until his passing. He was a hard worker and believed in providing for his family. He was a devoted Christian, who actively participated in his faith, a Presbyterian for many years before switching to Lutheran later in life. Allan loved nature. He was also an avid stamp collector who enjoyed researching the history of each stamp. He also enjoyed reading, listening to records, and watching cowboy movies and musicals.

Allan is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine; and their three daughters: Ann LeRoy (Shelley), Ruth Houser (Joe), & Janet Kindred (Steve); as well as their seven grandchildren: Sara LeRoy, Ryan LeRoy, Michelle LeRoy, Erin Kindred, Joseph Koolipurackal, Mathew Koolipurackal, & Luke Kindred.

Due to issues with coronavirus services have been postponed until now.  There will be a Memorial Service on July 31, 2021 at 2:00pm and held at Allan’s church: MT. OLIVE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 110 North Whitney Way, Madison and officiated by Rev. Jason Zobel. Followed by a reception and fellowship in the church hall, lower level.

In lieu of flowers Lorraine requests donations be made to either the Mt Olive Church landscaping fund, or to the Parkinson's Foundation.
