Xia Soua Thao, age 77, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Chao, and his four children, Kou, Bo, Lisa, and James Thao, all of whom reside in Sun Prairie. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, ranging in age from 9 to 38 years old, and one great-grandchild, age 2.

Xia Soua was born in Palong, Laos. Xia Soua had four brothers and five sisters. Xia Soua served in the Secret War for nine years as a member of the Special Guerrilla Units before immigrating to the United States in 1979. Although he experienced many hardships and can be serious with Hmong traditions, his playful spirit and sense of humor live on in his grandchildren, leaving them with fun, silly, and lasting memories.

A funeral service will take place at Cress Funeral & Cremation Service, 5801 Hwy 51 McFarland, WI 53558 on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 8 am to 10 pm and Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 8 am to 10 pm. The burial will take place on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Highland Memory Gardens on 3054 Co. Rd. BB Madison, Wisconsin 53718.
