Dane: Wim van den Berg, age 58, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 in the arms of his loving wife Julie.
Wim Rijk van den Berg was a strong man with an even stronger will and determination. He knew what made him happy in life, but more importantly, he knew that it wasn't worth a thing without someone to share it with. He met Julie, the love of his life, in November of 2006. No power in the universe was stronger than the love they shared; and they were sure to share it with everyone they came in contact with.
Known as Dr. Dinky, this avid toy collector was happiest in his workshop or in the garage, working on his Dinky Toys or Mercedes vehicles. He also enjoyed racing himself (known as Speedbenz1) on the racetrack in his "GR8STAR". Everyone enjoyed watching the only limo on the track. He was a great fan of the EAA Airshow, and never missed a year, even when he was sick.
He was a firm believer in enjoying what you do, and was often quoting Dutch phrases - one of his favorites being "Niet leven omte werken maar werken omte leven" (Do not live to work, but work to live).
December 21, 2008, Wim was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He beat the odds, and on January 13, 2014, Wim became a 5 year Pancreatic Cancer survivor. Unfortunately, the cancer had returned.
On July 19, 2014, Wim joined his parents, Jan Herman and Alida (Verweij) van den Berg, his sister, Ans Johanna Allot, and a number of cats, including Sylvan, Callie and Otis, in eternal rest. He is greatly missed on Earth by his wife, Julie, her children, Matthew (Jessica) and Andrew, Amanda and Ava, and many, many close friends.
There will be a visitation from 2-4pm on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the CRESS CENTER, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI 53705 followed by a Celebration of Wim's life at 4pm.
Donations would be appreciated to Julie to help alleviate some medical expenses that were incurred trying to save his life; or donations may be made to PanCan.org in remembrance of Wim. Please share a memory of Wim at
