MADISON, WI - William J. (Bill) Waterbury, age 62, passed to his rest on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, following a brief illness.
Bill was born February 12, 1955 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Parkis G. and Adele V. Waterbury (Stroede). Bill was a life-long resident of Madison, working at MARC (Madison Area Rehabilitation Centers Inc.) from 1973 to 2010. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting vehicle models and watching jets take off at Truax Field.
He is survived by his mother, Adele; sister Mary Sheard (Len); brothers Parkis R. (Joy), Mark, and Tim (Kari) Waterbury; aunt Anita Waterbury; and four neices, six nephews as well as two grandnephews and two grandnieces. Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents, Parkis L. and Ruth Waterbury, Benjamin and Esther Stroede; his father Parkis G.; uncle Jack Norbert, aunt Silvia Norbert and uncle Edward Waterbury.
Bill was a special person who struggled with his disability all his life. Much progress has been made in the care of mentally challenged individuals thanks to the many pioneers, like Bill's parents, who sought diligently to change thinking during a time when special services and accommodations were not available. A special thank you to Wendy, Ted, Thad, Phillip and all the caring staff at Options In Community Living Inc. for helping Bill live a full and happy life in the community he loved, close to those he loved.
