William Schwartz passed away on June 23, 2013 in Milwaukee, Wis. He was born January 24, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Beloved husband of Dorothy Schwartz (n�e Gahr). Father of Howard Schwartz (Sandy), Larry Schwartz and Marlene Schwartz (Steve). Loving Grandfather of Kara Schwartz, Alex Weiss, Samantha Weiss and Abigail Weiss. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Yetta and Harry Schwartz as well as his sisters, Florence Frank and Ida Schiewitz.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Bill was well known in the Madison Community for over 50 years. He owned Modern Lanes bowling alley and bar on Gorham St. in Madison in the 1950's. He then became a well known jeweler on State Street, working at Schwartz Jewelers and Jeweler's Workshop. Mr. Bill loved children and dogs and playing tennis. In fact, he carried Milk Bones in his pocket to hand out to all the dogs on State Street.
He served in the Air Force during World War II as a radio instructor.
He loved to travel with Dorothy, his wife of 70 years. Their favorite destination was Las Vegas.
He gave generously of his time to The Cancer Society, The Ronald McDonald House, and the Kidney Foundation.
Bill dealt his last hand here on June 2013. Now he is dealing again to Mike, Benny and Hound Dog.
We love Bill and will miss him very much. Contributions in bill's honor can be made to the American cancer society and /or the American heart association.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery on Wednesday June 26th at 3pm.
