He was married June 12, 1949 to Jeanette (Nette) Guk Schlinsog and they celebrated their 75th anniversary before her death in 2024. He was a loving husband, supportive father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His faith and church were an important part of his life. He played the trombone in the Neilsville high school band and sang in a band with his friends at local dances for many years. He also sang tenor in church choirs for over 40 years. All of our family car trips were accompanied by singing to pass the miles away. He was also an accomplished woodworker. Every member of the family has a piece of his furniture to enjoy. Bill and Nette were involved with the AFS program, sponsoring students from Thailand (Cher) and Denmark (Charlotte) as well as many others. They were great travelers, visiting almost every country in Europe, the Caribbean, 2 trips to Thailand, and seeing many U.S. National parks. They also enjoyed their cabin near Granton, WI, hosting many family reunions. Bill began his dairy career by serving as a Wisconsin cheese-maker and dairy plant manager for several companies, beginning with Schlinsog Dairy, a company his father started. He completed the University of Wisconsin Dairy Course in 1947. He worked for the State of Wisconsin for 37 years, first as a food inspector, then 15 years as a cheese grading specialist and 8 years as a dairy product marketing specialist. He served as Chief Judge for the Wisconsin State Fair, and Chief Judge for both the United States Cheese Contest and the World Cheese Contest.
