MADISON- William C. Munkwitz, age 88, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017. William (Bill) was born on May 9, 1929 in Washington D.C. to Richard C. Munkwitz and Miriam Roth Munkwitz.
He attended Randall Elementary School, graduated from Wisconsin High School in Madison and continued education at University of Wisconsin Stout. Bill served in the United States Army from 1950 through 1952 at Fort McCoy and Wiesbaden, Germany in an Engineering Company.
William married Ruth Louise Malburg on June 27, 1959 and raised three children.
Bill worked at Hults/Thorstad Chevrolet for 27 years as Assistant Parts Manager. Following that, he taught at Madison Area Technical College in the automotive department and developed the Auto Parts Specialist Program.
He was active in many organizations: Bethel Lutheran Church as a council member, an usher for 48 years, including the position of Head Usher; Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and Scoutmaster; The Village of Shorewood Hills, Services Committee for 47 years; Winnequah Gun Club as a long-time member, junior club coach and club president; and Madison Sports Car Club as a founding member.
William is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Sharon Munkwitz of Plymouth, MN; sons James (Susan) Munkwitz and their children Kevin and Mathew of Hartford, WI and David (Jayne) Munkwitz and their children Jared Mayer and Jenna (Brandon Turner) Mayer of New Auburn, WI; brother, George R. Munkwitz of Sauk City, WI, and great grandson Carson Turner.
He was proceeded in death by Richard and Miriam Munkwitz and Elder and Louise Malburg.
Visitation at Bethel Lutheran Church will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 25, 2017 with a service following at 11:00 am.
Bill will be interned with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C. where his parents and in-laws are buried as well.
