Stoughton - Willard D. Hanson, age 90, passed away on Friday August 25, 2017. He was born on February 1, 1927 in Stoughton, Wisconsin, the son of Anton and Nora (Gilbertson) Hanson. Willard grew up on the family farmstead in the Town of Dunkirk. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1944. On March 31, 1946 he married the love of his life Sylvia Anderson. Willard always stayed busy by working the farm and at the same time for Warren Peterson Cement and was also the city and rural postman for 22 years. He enjoyed his bowling leagues, dart ball, poker with his friends, and enjoyed his coffee group down at McDonalds.
He is survived by his two sons, Brian (Janet) Hanson and Kevin and (Diana) Hanson; two grandchildren, Brett (Jill) Hanson and Cole (Lindsey) Hanson; two great grandchildren, Micah and Reese Hanson; he is also survived by his wife Rosa Hanson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Willard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sylvia; brothers and sisters, Earl (Arlin) Hanson, Arlene (Iver) Christopherson, Roselyn (Donovan) Wake, Marion (Julius) Dawes, and Howard (Esther) Hanson, brother and sister in-law Giles (Janess) Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Cress Funeral Service, 206 W. Prospect St., Stoughton. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday. Willard will be laid to rest next to his wife Sylvia at Lutheran South Cemetery. Following the services, family and friends are invited to a catered luncheon at the Stoughton American Legion Post 59.
