Black Earth: Wayne J Streich, age 64 died on Thursday January 16, 2014 at his home unexpectedly of heart related complications. Wayne was born on August 31, 1949 in Madison, WI the Son of Walter and Alice (Reis) Streich. He joined the Marine Corps in 1967 at the age of 17 and served three years in the Vietnam War. Wayne married his former spouse Susan (Schlotthauer) Jackson in 1973 and had two children Angela and James. He then worked 34 years as a union fire protection sprinkler fitter for local 669 before retiring in 2004. During his retirement Wayne was able to enjoy all the things he loved; hunting, fishing, walks with his dogs, woodworking, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children Angela (Greg) Kamoske of Madison and James (Shannon) Streich of Lake Mills, two granddaughters Sydney Streich and Finley Kamoske, one grandson Colter Wayne Streich, the mother of his children Susan Jackson of Eau Claire, his father, Walter "Pete" Streich of Sun Prairie, sisters and brothers, Ronald (Sue) Streich of Ashton, Sandra (Stephen) Mace of Madison, Diane (Kevin) Hughes of Louisville, KY, Cynthia (Duane) Hauge of Madison, Linda Johnson of Marshall, Donna (James) DePaul of Little Chute, Timothy (Billie) Streich of Sun Prairie, Josephine (Edward) Kenney of De Forest, many nieces and nephews and his golden retriever Luke.
He was preceded in death by his mother Alice (Reis) Streich, his brother Gary Streich, infant brother Thomas Streich and best friend James Spurley who was killed in action in the Vietnam War.
A gathering to honor Wayne's life will be held on Tuesday January 21st from 4-7pm at the Cress Center, 6021 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53705. In honor of Wayne, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
