Wayne Roohr

September 20, 1934 — July 17, 2013

Wayne L. Roohr, age 78, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at his home in Madison after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease and later lung cancer. He was born on September 20, 1934 to John and Florence (Fancher) Roohr in the Town of Green Grove, WI. Wayne was an O.H.S 1953 graduate, attended Eau Claire State College, and graduated from Milwaukee School of Mortuary Science. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years. On December 27, 1958, Wayne was united in marriage to June Devine in Owen. Wayne worked for the University of Wisconsin Department of Anatomy from 1961 until his retirement in 1993. He held a funeral director license for nearly 50 years.

Wayne is survived by his wife, June; children, Kathryn (Tom) Maloney, Margaret (Dennis) Landphier, Linda (Jose) Bracho and Mark (Angie Weaver) Roohr; and grandchildren, Jose and Andrea Bracho, Allyssa Landphier, Conor Maloney and Devon, Dylan and Tyler Weaver and his brother-in-law Michael (Mary) Devine. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers Gerald, Harold, and Ken.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 415 W. 3rd Street, Owen, with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Withee.

Wayne was a charter member of Friends of the Old School and spent many hours working to bring the building back to life. He enjoyed fixing and making things, working on word search puzzles, watching the Brewers, Packers and the UW Badgers. He was a UW season ticket holder for 51 years. He will be remembered always for his sense of humor and easy going nature.
