Wardell H. “Bucky” Pike, age 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 13, 2025, after a full and rewarding life.
Bucky was born in Lincoln, NE on July 17, 1925, and was the son of the late Harry and Edna (Hubbell) Pike.
Bucky graduated from West High School, Madison, WI in 1943 and joined the Army directly after graduation. He landed on Utah Beach with the 94th Division 3 months after D-Day and fought in the campaigns of Northern France; Battle of the Bulge; Rhineland and Central Europe. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.
After the war, Bucky attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in business administration and was a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation in June 1950 married Margaret Fuller. Bucky and Margaret were together for 43 years until Margaret’s death in 1993. He worked as a stockbroker in Madison his entire career.
Bucky was active in several organizations including Madison Downtown Rotary, Scottish Rite Freemasonry, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Nakoma Golf Club, Mendota Yacht Club, and the Madison Club. He was an Eagle Scout and volunteered for the Boy Scouts for much of his life, serving as President of the Glacier’s Edge Council for two years. He received both the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards from the Boy Scouts.
Bucky was also a founding member of both Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and the Zor Shrine Pipes and Drums, where he served as Drum Sargent for nine years.
Bucky is survived by his brother William Pike of Laguna Beach, CA; son, John (Kay) Pike of Verona, WI; daughter Jayne (Dennis) Glocke of State College, PA; 6 grandchildren – James (Jessica) Pike of Richfield, WI; Katherine (Sam) Herro of Waukee, IA; Elizabeth (Ben) Becker of Bellingham, WA; Nathan (Kate) Glocke of State College, PA; Geoff Glocke of De Pere, WI; Erin Glocke of Bethlehem, NH; and 9 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday June 15, 2025, at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd. Madison, WI. Full military honors will follow.
