Wanda Sheeks

SUN PRAIRIE--Wanda B. Sheeks (Mielke), age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, May 28, 2018. She was born on April 7, 1923 in Fox Lake, WI (Green Lake County) to Henry and Elizabeth (Lueck) Mielke. She grew up and attended school in the Fox Lake area. In 1942, she graduated from Fox Lake High School. Wanda married Elmer Hoeppner in Fox Lake, and they went on to have 3 children: Sandra, Bud, and Richard. A second marriage later in life to Daniel Sheeks took place in Portage, WI and blessed Wanda with two more children: Sue and Dannette.

Wanda worked in different factories in Portage and Middleton and drove school bus for the Poynette School system for 19 years.

In 1976, she and her husband and family moved to Sun Prairie where she worked in the lunch program for the Sun Prairie schools.

In 1982, Wanda's husband suffered a severe stroke, and she cared for him at home for five years until his death on July 5, 1987.

Wanda babysat for several children including her last two grandchildren from age 6 months until they entered school.

Wanda loved to bake and sew including sewing many items for her grandchildren and herself. She loved flowers and always filled her home with the most beautiful ones to be found.
Wanda was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie for 20 years until she transferred to Holy Cross Lutheran in Madison in 1996.

Wanda is survived by her children Sandy (the late Robert) Schliesmann of Menomonee Falls, Bud (Sharon) Hoeppner of Oshkosh, Richard (Kate) Hoeppner of Sun Prairie, Sue (fiancé Jim Doheny) Roundy of Madison, and Dannette Kenyon of Sun Prairie; her nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie with a service beginning at 11:00 am with Pastor Berndt Tweit presiding. Wanda will be brought to her final place of rest with private services at Sunset Memory Gardens.
