Wanda Godshall

December 18, 1924 — June 7, 2016

MADISON - Wanda J. Godshall, age 91, of Madison, died on June 7, 2016 at Attic Angel Place Health Center, due to complications from a series of strokes. She was born in LaCrosse on December 18, 1924, the second daughter of George and Grace Hauge, and grew up in the Viroqua area. After living with her grandparents while in high school, she moved to Madison upon graduation to rejoin her parents and two sisters. She was briefly married to Robert John McCormick until his death in 1949. In the early 1950's, while working at WHA Radio & Television, she met W. Duncan Godshall, also an employee there. Their engagement was announced in the employee mimeographed newsletter with the comment "Wanda-ful!" They were married in the spring of 1952, and enjoyed sixty years of marriage before Dunc's death. They raised two daughters, Karen and Kathryn. Wanda returned to work at WHA several additional times, and later worked as a volunteer there. She also worked in various other state offices and for several real estate and accounting firms as a clerical staff member. In retirement, Wanda and Dunc spent many of their winters in Hilo, Hawaii, the home of their daughter Kathryn. In 2010, they sold their 1957 Parade of Homes home near Hilldale, and moved to The Gardens apartments nearby. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters Marne Burmeister and Yvonne Burris, and by her daughter Kathryn. She is survived by her beloved cat Sammy and daughter Karen Godshall, both of Verona. They wish to thank the staff of Attic Angel Place and of Agrace Hospice for their care during the last six months of Wanda's life. No services are planned. Memorials may be made to the Friends of Wisconsin Public Television, Inc., or to the charity of your choice.
