Springfield Corners - Walter F. Schacht, age 85, passed away Wednesday, August 17th 2016 at the William S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital. Walter was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin to the late Walter and Gladys Schacht and attended Baraboo High School. He worked for several years at Badger Ordinance and then as a carpenter.
Walter is survived by his wife, June Andres Schacht; daughter, Debra Barrons of Milwaukee; stepsons Dale "Andy" Andres of Harmony Grove and Tom (Roxeanne) Andres of Merrimac; sister, Virginia Richards of Baraboo; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gladys Schacht.
Walter was a longtime member of the Wisconsin National Guard. Walt's passion was his involvement in trap and skeet shooting. He was honored for his marksmanship as a member of the National Guard Shooting Team and he won several awards for his marksmanship.
Walt was also a skilled craftsman as he worked throughout his life as a carpenter. One of his proudest accomplishments was the house he built for him and his wife, June.
Visitation for Walter will be at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy Q, Waunakee, on Sunday, August 21st from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pastor Joel Brandt will officiate the Celebration of Life Service at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home on Monday, August 22, at 10 a.m. followed by full military honors. The burial will be at the family plot at Fountain Lutheran Church in Kendall, Wisconsin.
The family would like to thank the VA Hospital, Infusion Clinic and Hospice for the caring staff that worked with Walter during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to Cross Lutheran Church or The Wounded Warrior Project.
