Waldon Porterfield

May 11, 1943 — September 23, 2016

Sun Prairie - Waldon R. "Wally" Porterfield, Sept 23, 2016, age 73 loving husband of Virginia (Ne Connor), cherishedfather of Scott (Christy), and beloved daughter Christine. Born in Jefferson, Iowa, May 11, 1943. The son of Waldon and Darlene Porterfield. He spent his childhood, and early adult life in Milwaukee, but considered Sun Prairie, WI home. This is where he raised his family with his wife of 43 years, Margaret (Ne Rohan, who preceded him in death). Wally was a true family man, nothing meant more to him. His family grew tenfold after his marriage to Virginia in 2014. Virginia and Wally found great love in one another and her wonderful extended family welcomed him with open arms. He is further survived from that union by Virginia's children, George Lazar Jr., Timothy Lazar (Jennifer VanVliet), and Elizabeth (Oumar) Thiam. Wally adored and in turn was worshiped by his grandchildren, Scott & Christy's daughters, Kaela and Ryley, and Liz & Oumar's sons, Fod and Connor. Wally is also survived by his two brothers, Kevin (Heather) and Kent; sister, Wendy Porterfield; special nephews, Patrick & Devin Curran and many other family and friends. His daughter Christine preceded him in death in 2003.

Wally started his career in the paint industry with the Sherwin Williams Paint Co. in Milwaukee. That job brought him to Sun Prairie in 1985. He managed various stores in Madison for Sherwin Williams. In 1993 he began working for Hallman Lindsay Paint. He was the store manager on East Washington for 16 years. He "retired" in 2009 and continued to work part time at Hallman Lindsay until August of this year.

Wally was a generous, kind, and gentle man. He was a storyteller. People were drawn to him by his sense of humor, easy smile, and infectious laugh. He received his joy by making others laugh with him. He was a gardener extraordinaire and boasted of over three hundred different varieties of day lilies in his beautiful gardens. He loved the company of family and friends, fast cars, his scooter, a good thunderstorm, Stephen King, folk music (especially Peter, Paul and Mary, but mostly Mary), and a Swisher Sweet cigar, but when it is all said and done, what he really loved was his people. How lucky the souls to be one of Wally's people. He will be missed by many, and always.

A celebration of his life will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, on Saturday, October 1, 2016, from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
