MADISON/WHITEWATER - Waldemar W. "Walt" Nimmow Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully in Whitewater on Saturday Feb. 6, 2016. He was born on Sept. 14, 1929 in Abelman, WI. the son of the late Walt and Hermine (Carlin) Nimmow. He and Ester Knuth Nimmow were blessed with 58 years of marriage. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Walt worked as a store manager at Madison Gas and Electric for 23 years.
A true patriot, he served his country in the Army during the Korean War and later he dedicated thousands of hours to serving Veterans thru the American Legion and VA Hospital. Throughout his life, Walt enjoyed traveling, bowling, working crossword puzzles, reading and playing cards, but most of all, spending time with his family.
Walt is survived by his beloved wife Ester, son Ted (Mary) Koenecke, son Bill (Sally) Nimmow, 6 grandchildren , 9 great grandchildren, 5 sisters, Dora (Warren) Peterson, Cicely (Gilbert) Sugden, Valerie (Donald) Zanzow, Faith (Robert) Jackson, Rosaline (James) Jackson, 5 brothers, Norman (Connie), Donald (Carol), Sigfried (Barbara), Edmund (Virginia), Herman (Colleen) Nimmow, his best friend and brother-in-law Louis Knuth and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be on Saturday Feb. 20, 2016 at 11:30 AM and a memorial service at 1:00 PM at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd, Madison. Burial at a later date will be in St. John's Cemetery in Rock Springs.
