Virginia Thousand

June 9, 1926 — July 23, 2012

Madison - Virginia "Ginny" Thousand passed away peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2012, in Madison, Wisconsin. She was born Virginia Mary Sutter on June 9, 1926, in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, daughter of Leo and Esther Sutter, and the oldest of four siblings. She graduated from high school in Mount Horeb. Ginny married Anthony Dean Thousand on June 19, 1946, moving to Madison where they raised their children; she later lived in San Antonio for several years. She loved design and art, beginning fashion design as a child making clothing for her paper dolls from wallpaper samples. This love of design led her to attend the Vogue School of Fashion Art in Chicago, later studying art at Edgewood College. An accomplished seamstress, Ginny's children have always been proud to wear her individually tailored designs. She won a national sewing contest and exhibited artwork at Edgewood. She worked as a designer for Town and Country House and Madison Paint and Wallpaper. Other interests included reading, basketball (Go Spurs!), classical music, and convertibles. Creativity and artistic talent are part of her legacy to her children and grandchildren along with many happy memories.

She is survived by: her children and their spouses - Tolu and Jos� Sanabria, Middleton; Tania Thousand, Dunlap, IL; Tim and Sharon Thousand, Madison; Terry Thousand, Boerne, TX; Ted Thousand and Darcy Love, Roxbury; grandchildren - Joseph Sanabria, Ilse Lipke, Josh Jorgensen, Jinessa "Jinny" Jorgensen, John "JJ" Duennenberg, and Clarissa Duennenberg; a sister, Millie Kelly, and brothers-in-law Vernon Kelly and Bill Kvernen; a sister-in-law, Lillian Thousand; and "adopted" family Vishnu and Niloo Joshi, and their children - Dr. Shashank Joshi and Shiloo Flegal; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Jerome Sutter, her sister, Doris Kvernen, and a great-granddaughter, Katya.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 11 a.m., at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes Street, Cross Plains.

Memorials may be made to Ginny's favorite charities: the Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM) or the International Crane Foundation.
