Marxville/ Cross Plains- Virgil Theis, 84, died on Sunday "Fathers Day" June 15, 2014. He was born on Dec 22, 1929 in Marxsville, WI to Leonard and Rose (Stuckmayer) Theis. He married Gladys Mack on Nov. 27, 1952 in Roxbury. Virgil worked for the Mid-Plains Telephone Co in Middleton. He enjoyed a number of pastimes including fishing, rug weaving, visiting, traveling, tinkering and of course farming. He had restored a number of tractors over the years. Virgil was proud of living his entire life on the family farm in Marxville (The Theis farm since 1862).
Survivors include his wife Gladys, his children; Michael (Joy) Theis, Susan (Don) Austin, Monica (Craig Schiestl) Theis, Patrcia Theis, Rosanne (Dennis Thompson) Theis, Lisa (Shawn Lerch) Theis; grandchildren Jocelyn (Wayne)Hammons, Daryl Austin, Christopher Theis, Joseph Theis, John Theis and Emma Schiestl; one great-grandchild, Allison Hammons. Two sisters Lorraine Breunig and Jeanette Hollfelder. His sisters and brothers-in-law, Lou Ann (Bob) Bonjour, Liz (Curt) Meffert, Marlene Mack and Bill Butterfield. He was preceded in death by his brother Roman and his inlaws; Lucille Theis, Lawrence Breunig, Mel Hollfelder, Ken Mack and Dorothy Butterfield.
A visitation will be held on Sat. July 5, 2014 from 10:00a.m to 12:00 noon at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home 5785 Hwy Q. A gathering at Rex's Innkeeper in Waunakee will follow the visitation.
