VERONA/WAUNAKEE-Violet L. Herricks, age 97, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the Waunakee Manor Health Center Center. She was born in Verona on February 21, 1919, to Albert and Anna (Schilter) Duerst. She was employed with Dane County Social Services for over 20 years and was a homemaker for the elderly. Violet loved everything about farming and always attended the Dairy Expo. She also enjoyed traveling, and collecting bells, spoons, Salt & Pepper shakers and baskets. Violet was also a very active member of Dane Immanuel Church for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith Edwards (Doug Sommerfeld); a son, James Bigler( Gert Williams); two step-daughters, Mary Ellen Acker and Rita Fedder; a step-son, Joe Derra; and one brother, Herman Duerst, also a number of grandchildren, and a special friend, Sharon Isensee. She was preceded in death by her husbands; Frederick Bigler, Andrew Derra, Leo Herricks and Richard Sirek, also a granddaughter, Kristina; two sisters, Viola and Hilda; and a brother, Edward.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Dane Immanuel Church, 300 N. Military Road in Dane. Friends may call at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home on Friday March 11, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place on Monday at the Mt Vernon Cemetery at 11:00.
