WAUNAKEE - Viola G. "Vi" Kaltenberg, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison.
She was born on Oct. 17, 1925 in Ashton, Wis., the daughter of William and Josephine (Kalscheur) Maly. Viola married James A. "Jim" Kaltenberg on June 9, 1949. Together they had nine children and owned Kaltenberg Seed Farms of Waunakee.
Family was most important to Viola. She was a loving, supportive mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife who enjoyed spending time with family, preparing holiday meals, caring for her flower and vegetable gardens, traveling, and volunteering for St. John's Catholic Church. Throughout the years, Jim and Viola opened their home to host many international AFS and Friendship Force exchange program ambassadors from numerous countries.
Viola is survived by her nine children, Donna (Jim) Tooley of Lodi, Jack (Jane) of DeForest, Fred (Tracey) of Sun Prairie, Ellen Anlauf of Middleton, Diane (David) Ahlers of Orono, MN, Jane (Brian) Pawlowski of St. Louis, MO, Janet (Russ) Wipperfurth of Sun Prairie, Barbara (Mark) DeBoer of Waunakee, David (Carmen) of Waunakee; nineteen grandchildren, Jessica Tooley; Gena (Jeremy) Marshall, Anton (Emily), and Garret; Matthew (Lauren) and Michael; Austin and Tyler Anlauf; John and Michael Ahlers; Michelle and Sean Pawlowski; Rachel (Matthew) Pavlue, Carissa and Karlie Wipperfurth; William and Michael DeBoer; Kylie and Lexi; and two great grandchildren, Camden and Weston Marshall. She is further survived by her sister, Ethel Ballweg; brother and sister-in-law, Norman (Lorraine) Maly; sisters-in-law, Mary Breunig and Joan Schorr; brother-in-law, Gene Schuster; AFS "son" Rogelio (Ana Cecilia) Fern�ndez-G�ell of San Jos�, Costa Rica; and many other relatives and friends.
Viola is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Kaltenberg (1997), her parents, sisters and brothers-in-law: Julia (Ambrose) Meinholz, Anna (Werner) Kessenich, Rosina (Herbert) Ballweg and Josephine (Leo) Greiber; sister: Antoinette Schuster; brothers and sisters-in-law: Herbert (Eleanor) Maly, Roman (Esther) Maly, Walter (Evellyn) Maly; brothers-in-law: Alfred Ballweg, Jerome Breunig, Werner Schorr, Donald Raemisch and sister-in-law, Lorretta Raemisch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 209 South St., Waunakee with Monsignor James Gunn presiding. A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Lighthouse of Sun Prairie, Waunakee Manor, and St. Mary's Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of our mother during her stay.
