Victor A. Hellenbrand, age 88, passed away on June 2, 2025. He was born on August 2, 1936, in Ashton, WI. He was a farmer through and through, but above all a man devoted to his faith and his family.
Vic married the love of his life, Shirley Endres of Waunakee, on December 29th, 1964. While raising their family, Vic farmed full-time and was a loyal employee of Voit’s Ready-mix for 30+ years. One of our fondest memories is having our turn to go to work with dad and ride along in the cement truck. He was passionate about baseball, coaching CYO when he was younger and again when his boys were of age, going so far as to build our own baseball diamond in the neighbor’s set-aside field. He passed down to his children many of the skills he learned as a mechanic in the Army. He loved to play cards, drink Huber beer, and talk smart. His Catholic faith was especially important to him. He lived his life with conviction, setting an example for family, friends, and strangers.
Vic is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley; his children, Paul (Donna), Jenny (Dan) Ryan, Wayne (Tracy), David (Teri), Donna (Craig) Kopp, Kay (Neil) McIntyre, Toby (Lori), Dan (Amy Rae), Steve (Aja), Andy (Amy Jo), Diane Taylor (Andy Lister); and 32 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren (and a 4th on the way). Vic is survived by brothers, sisters and in-laws, Joyce (sister-in-law), Dorothy (Glenn) Mack, Lawrence (Agnes), Esther (James) Esser, JoAnn (Larry) Borek, Carol (Thomas) Igl, and Alvin (Elaine) and many nieces and nephews.
Vic was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Julie; parents, Henry and Agnes; and his brothers, Henry Jr., Herman, Charlie, Jerry, Tony and Wally; and his sisters-in-law, Bernie and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 109 S. Military Rd, Dane. Fr. Joseph Baker will officiate. Visitation may call on Monday, June 9 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home in Waunakee. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. The burial will take place in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family will establish a memorial at a later date.
A special thank you to our mom and all the caregivers in Vic’s life since his stroke in Sept. of 2015 that allowed him to remain at home for many years after the stroke.
