Vernon Meier

August 13, 1940 — November 10, 2015

MADISON-Vernon A. Meier, age 75, passed away peaceful at home surrounded by his daughters on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, following a two year battle with a rare kidney disease which required him to receive kidney dialysis three times a week. He was born on Aug. 13, 1940, in Waunakee, the son of Anton and Frances (Adler) Meier. He proudly served our country in the US Army from 1963 to 1969. He married the love of his life, Mary Miller, who preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 2009; they are now eternally united together forever. Vern worked as a mechanic for many years in his family owned business, Meier and Son's Garage in Waunakee. His expertise as a mechanic took him to American State Equipment and later to Madison Bumper Exchange until his time of retirement as a Salesman for Keystone Automotive. Vern had many lasting friendships with his customers who meant the world to him. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Vern liked watching NASCAR, the Badgers and Packers games, hunting, fishing, camping, and playing cards. In past years, he spent many weekends watching his son-in-law, Kevin, race and every Sunday with his race friends at Angel Park in Sun Prairie.

Survivors include two daughters, Dawn (Brian) Hass of McFarland and Kim (Kevin) Koch of Cottage Grove; grandchildren, Brandon Hass, and Kayla and Kolton Koch, they were his pride and joy; and his siblings, Betty (Robert) Hoffmann of Madison and Doris (Buck) Rindfliesch of Poynette. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Candy who was always by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; his sister, Jenny Coffey; his brother, Rich Meier; his in-laws, and Peter and Gertrude Miller.

A celebration of Vern's life will be held on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy. Q, Waunakee. Friends may call on Monday at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A special thank you to all the staff and physicians at the VA Hospital and Wisconsin Dialysis East for their kindness and caring support.
