Vernon Mandt

DEERFIELD - Vernon Robert Mandt, age 92, passed away on April, 30, 2016. He was born on February 7, 1924, third child of nine to Wilhelm (Rudy) Mandt and Helena (Niebuhr) Mandt of Town of Burke. Vernon was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madison and confirmed at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton. Vernon graduated from Middleton Junction grade school and Middleton High School. The family moved to the Deerfield area in the year of 1946.
Vernon was blessed with Forty-eight years of marriage to Dolores (Dolly) Pooch, two children and two step-children. He was a life long farmer with great pride and love of the soil, was very conscientious of preserving the soil and went into strip cropping to accomplish this on their Liberty Prairie farm. He also had a Dairy farm at one time.

He was an avid sports fan of Green Bay Packers, Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers enjoyed and kept track of the local high school sports and also followed nieces and nephews accomplishments in sports over the years. Vern was a very friendly conversationalist who genuinely loved people. He also loved fishing and hunting at their northern Wisconsin cottage "The Oriole" and traveling.

Vernon was a great community supporter serving as Deerfield Township Supervisor for 4 years, Township Chairman for 6 years, Charter Member of Super Cross Seed Corn 500 Bushel Club, Charter member of Deerfield Fire Commission for 29 years, Treasurer of St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Cemetery Association for 31 years, a member of Dane County ASC Agriculture Committee for 14 years. He served on the Deerfield Lutheran Church Council for 4 years, St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church Council for 4 years and the St. Paul's Stewardship Committee for several years.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Dolores, two children, Dennis (Jinger) Mandt and Patricia (Darren) Winkler of Cambridge, two step-children Jeffrey (Lisa) Albrecht of Deerfield, Mark (Sue) Albrecht of Marshall, Five Grandchildren, Kari Kilburg Wagner, Amy Kilburg (Doug) Vike, Ashley Kilburg, Renee Mandt, Rachel Mandt, Deidre Albrecht and nine Great-Grandchildren. He is survived by sister, Alice Knapton, two brothers, Bill and Jack Mandt, three sister-in laws, Lucille, Peggy and Joan Mandt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Marion Mandt, Lois Stampfli, Anna Mae Dahlk, two brothers Frederick and Thomas Mandt, two brothers-in-law's Norman Dahlk and Walter Stampfli.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 6, 2016 at St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, 3494 Oak Park Road, Deerfield, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held at the church at from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be at St. Paul's Cemetery. Lunch will follow burial at St. Paul's Educational Building. Memorials may be made out to Agrace HospiceCare or the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department.
