Valery Buechner

MADISON - Valery A. Buechner, age 72, passed away on Monday Feb. 1, 2016 at the UW Hospital in Madison. She was born Oct. 30, 1943 in Ripon, WI, the daughter of Emrys and Adaline (Schepp) Jones, where they lived on a farm in Rio, WI. After graduating high school, she moved to Madison and married Francis Buechner on August 7th, 1965. Soon after, they began a family, which Valery took great pride in raising. As her children grew older, she re-entered the workforce part-time and then went to work full-time for several years with the State of Wisconsin as the Hunger Prevention Program Manager, Division of Children and Family Services, from where she retired.

Valery had many hobbies and interests over the years, including entertaining family and friends in her earlier years, reading, watching movies, and in later years, visiting with family and friends. She had a love of trees and the UW Arboretum. She was also very active in the Democratic Party for many years and loved to discuss politics.

Valery is survived by her husband Francis "Frank" Buechner of Madison, daughter Cathryn Meier of Middleton, son Eric (Beverly) Buechner of Polonia, WI, grandchildren Ryleigh Meier of Arena and Sebastian Buechner of Madison; brothers Dennis (Sharon) Jones of Lodi and Dean Jones of Wilmington, Illinois.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, and sister-in-law Sheridan Jones.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Saturday Feb. 20, 2016 at the CRESS CENTER, 6021 University Ave in Madison. A time for expression and sharing of memories will take place at 3:00 PM.
