Toni Miyagawa

ALBANY
Toni (Gervasi) Miyagawa passed unexpectedly on Thursday, March 5, 2015. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, wife, sister, cousin, and friend.

Toni was born in Madison, on January 25, 1949 to Anthony and Alice (Norris) Nason.

She worked as an educational assistant for over 15 years in the Madison Public School District, working at Thoreau and Leopold Elementary Schools. Toni enjoyed all the children she worked with. Most of all, her passion was working with special needs students. Her compassion, empathy, and loyalty made her perfect for the job.

Toni loved working in the yard, cultivating her vegetable and flower gardens, all while soaking up the sunshine. She enjoyed watching creatures large and small; butterflies, hummingbirds, and other animals that were frequent visitors to her yard; she especially loved spending time with and taking care of her dogs.

Toni had a big heart, a wonderful artistic talent, and a great sense of humor. She loved the natural world, the ocean and Lake Superior. She enjoyed spending time by the water whether it was walking the beach, picking rocks, or just sitting there with a cup of coffee and her grandchildren. Toni was happiest while spending time with her grandchildren: Ava Austin (6), Eli Austin (4), Sierra Miyagawa (1). She always treated them with warmth, kindness, and love.

Family and friends were important to Toni. Her wonderful sense of humor and laughter is missed. We all miss her, and are deeply grieving her loss.

She is survived by her husband Jon; daughter Alisha (Clint) Austin; son Jeremy (Jill) Miyagawa; three grandchildren; mother Louise Nason; and sisters Patricia Bormett, Carol Cerniglia-Steudel, and Kathy Piper.

Toni loved for things to be simple; therefore, per her request there will be no memorial or gathering of friends. We know that those that loved her will understand her wishes. Our family thanks all of you for your prayers, love and support.
