Sun Prairie

Timothy DeMuth Schmuck, 72, of Sun Prairie, WI, lived a full life, filled with family, friends, and love. He graduated from Mayo High School in Rochester, MN, After serving in the US Air Force, Tim graduated from the University of Minnesota and began a career in the grain industry, where he spent time working in export houses on the Gulf Coast, being a member of the Kansas City Board of Trade, and buying ingredients for animal feed at Land O’Lakes. Every aspect of his career was exciting to Tim, and he was proud of what he accomplished.

Tim was devoted to his family, happily helping support his kids’ dreams. He coached Nick in baseball, attended every one of Kate’s Volleyball games, and fearlessly drove his family on wonderful vacations across the country. He carefully built pasture fence and an arena when Kate began riding horses. If help was needed, Tim was always willing to jump in. He never did anything partway; he was committed to the end. He was good to his friends and had a sweet personality. He loved baseball and one of his biggest thrills was treating his friends and family to Twins baseball games.

Tim loved to hike and in his later years, was an adamant hiker. He was a member of the Green Valley Hiking Club, in addition to spending a lot of time walking through his neighborhood in Green Valley. One of his favorite spots was a bench where he could look out over the desert toward the Santa Ritas. He found great joy in going to Madera Canyon to hike and to enjoy the views. He was also a member of the Green Valley Pickleball Club and enjoyed playing with friends as often as he could.

On May 21, 2022, Tim succumbed to a combination of ALS and frontotemporal degeneration after many years of living with the disease. He never stopped smiling, never complained, and continued to try to help his caregivers until close to the end. He received loving care from his “home away from home,” Hyland Crossings Memory Care and from Rainbow Hospice, which cared for him during the last ten months of his life. He is survived by his wife, Susan, their son Nick and his wife Cora, their daughter Kate and her partner Brandon, their grandson Redding, their granddaughter Willa, and their grand-dog, Canon. Further, he is survived by his sisters Katherine and Sarah and Sarah’s husband Duncan, in addition to his many nieces and nephews. Tim was preceded in death by his parents Roger and Elizabeth Schmuck and his older brother Roger, Jr.

Tim was well loved and will be missed by those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates any donations in Tim’s honor be made to Friends of Madera Canyon at https://friendsofmaderacanyon.org or Rainbow Hospice at https://rainbowhospicecare.org .
