Timothy Helman

Timothy Jon Helman passed away unexpectedly September 14, 2017. Tim, TJ, husband, father, son, brother, Grandpa, Uncle, Big Guy, Master of Fun, our rock, will be missed by all.

Tim was born to John and Deannie Helman March 22, 1958 in Pekin, Illinois. The oldest of five, he always tried to take care of his brothers and sisters. Nothing meant more to Tim than his family. He joined the Marines in 1976, and served for four years with the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps. Tim was always proud of his service to his country.

With a kind and caring heart, he was always there with a word of encouragement, a smile or a hug whenever somebody needed him. Tim lived life large. If there was fun to be had, he would find it. He enjoyed fishing, and being in the woods, as well as reading, learning, music and floating in the lake with a beer. Tim had a deep faith in God and his goodness.

He married the love of his life Amanda McMahon on September 20, 2008. He was a loving husband and the light of her life. Together they worked for Colonial Life Insurance. He also owned a Farmers Insurance agency in Monona, Wisconsin. Tim was a born salesman, and never knew a stranger. He truly enjoyed people, and had a smile for everyone.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, John Frank Helman, and his sister Kristi Helman Berardi. He is survived by his wife, Amanda McMahon Helman, his mother Deannie, sons Jon Helman (Anna Brinegar), Benjamin (Amanda) Helman, John (Shandi) Shipp, and Jason Shipp. He is also survived by his brothers, Mike Helman, Todd Helman (Sara Doyle), his sister Kathi (Darin) Bolen, nieces Kari Bolen, Sara Helman and Meckeala (Jake) Potter, nephews Sean Helman, Ryan Berardi, Andrew Helman, Alex Helman, Mitchell Bolen, Josh Bolen, Derek Bolen, Kodiak Koessl, Sean McMahon, grandchildren Saraphin White and Ethan Shipp, great nieces Emma Dearing, Paisley Potter, Paris Potter, great-nephews Parker Potter and Pierson Potter. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 3:00 pm. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Following the memorial service, the family will have a "Celebration of Life" gathering at the VFW Post 9362, 349 South Walker Way in Sun Prairie.


Tim will be sorely missed by many. Fair winds and following seas, Marine. Godspeed.
