Thomas H. "Tom" Zopfi, age 65, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 after a long battle with ALS ( Lou Gehrig's disease).
Tom was born August 7, 1947 in Elgin, Illinois, and was the son of the late Harold and Bernice (Schimanski) Zopfi. Tom was married to Diane M. Helleckson on August 14, 1971.
Tom served in the Navy as a SeaBee from 1966-68, that included 2 tours of duty in Viet Nam.
Tom was employed as a carpenter and later in his career, owned and operated Reasonably Honest Construction with his son Ted. Tom retired in 1999.
Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with friends, family and yearly vacations to Mexico.
Tom is survived by Diane, his wife of 42 years, his children: son Theodore (Charlie) and daughter Shannon Clemens ( Douglas) both of Dane. He is further survived by his grandchildren Alliyah, Nolan, Odessa, Garrett Zopfi also Sidney Clemens, and Liam Clemens due in October. He is also survived by his sisters Linda (Rick) Saindon, Sandra (Robby) Hughes, Patricia Zopfi (Jill Voelkel), his brother-in-laws: Bruce Ward , Mark Lietzke , Robert ( Connie) Vitense, Dwain Helleckson, Randy(Deb) Helleckson, and sister-in-laws: Bonnie Whiting, and Judy (Jerry) Mayfield, and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Bernice Zopfi, sisters Carolyn Ward and Cynthia Lietzke, his father and mother-in-law, Burnette and Katherine Helleckson and brother-in law Robert Whiting.
A Memorial service will be held on Sat. June 29, 2013 at 12 noon at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy Q Waunakee. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday. Following the service there will be a reception for friends and family at the Community Center in Dane.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the VA in Wisconsin and Arizona, and Agrace Hospice, for their care and compassion during his difficult times. Also, many thanks to our family and many friends, for their prayers and thoughts. We truly appreciated them.
