Cross Plains - Thomas J. Taves, age 64, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014 at his home. He was born on December 26, 1949 to Robert and Ruth (Graebert) Taves in Milwaukee. Tom grew up in Brookfield. He has lived in Madison since 1970. Tom graduated from Madison Area Technical College with a degree in architectural design, and worked as a plumbing designer for a consulting engineering firm. Tom met his wife, Jane, in Madison, and they were married in 1976. They have one daughter, Molly, and have always had a large family of assorted pets. Because of his love of animals, Tom volunteered at Dane County Humane Society for many years. He loved fishing, gardening, cooking, and especially baking, and his pumpkin pies were enjoyed by many. Tom enjoyed travelling around the world with family. He was an active member at St. Mark's Lutheran Church where he sat on the church council. Tom is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter, Molly; mother, Ruth; brother, Bill; sister, Kris; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Burial will follow at Beit Olamim in Sunset Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made in Tom's name to the Dane County Humane Society, 5132 Voges Road, Madison, WI 53718.
