Thomas Robert Strock (71) passed away Saturday, December 20th at UW Hospital, surrounded by family. Tom was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Bertha (Stitt) and Paul Strock, the second of four children.
Tom attended school in Ohio and graduated from Youngstown State University in 1976 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He spent his entire career as a structural engineer for the Federal Highway Administration.
While still in school, he met and married his wife, the former Laurel Galey, in 1975. Tom and Laurel moved first to Illinois, then relocated to three other states, finally settling in the Madison area in 1990.
Being an engineer, Tom was always building something. He designed and built our family home when we moved to Waunakee, creating custom wood trims and furniture.
Tom was also passionate about exploring the outdoors, spending many trips camping, paddling, and hiking. In 2018 we had a wonderful trip in our pickup truck camper, driving out to Alaska with Tom capturing much of the natural beauty with his photography.
In addition to his wife, Tom leaves behind his sons, David, Kevin, and Bradley, and six grandchildren, Nora, Olivia, Kaiser, Forest, Luna, and Otis. He also leaves behind his sisters, Brenda Strock and Paula (Bernie) Frister as well as his sister-in-law Lark (Keith) Wolfgang and brother-in-law Lane (Mary) Galey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James and brother-in-law Lynn Galey.
There will be a celebration of life on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 3 to 5 PM, at Buck and Honey's restaurant, 1370 Water Wheel Dr. Waunakee. Please come with stories to tell as we remember Tom.
In leu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Badger Woodturners mentor fund or to Second Harvest.
