Thomas Malcolm Phillips

Tom Phillips, 78, of Sun Prairie passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on the evening of October 31st, 2014.

Tom was born on August 13th, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri and chosen by loving adoptive parents Dr. Paul Phillips and his wife Marjorie. He was raised in the Middleton area, graduated from Middleton High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Tom married the love of his life, Darlene Elmer, on February 14th, 1970. Tom had a fulfilling 36 year career at Oscar Mayer. He took much pride in his accomplishments and Oscar Mayer family. His favorite bragging rite is his name on the U.S. patent for the Oscar Mayer "Wiener mobile Whistle". His biggest challenge in life began with a successful double lung transplant at Barnes Jewish Hospital (St. Louis, MO) on April 7th, 1993. Due to the life-saving gift that Tom received from a generous donor, we were blessed with an additional 21 years with Tom. Tom was passionate about spreading the word about the importance of signing the organ donor card. In lieu of flowers, any memorials will be donated to Tom's favorite organ procurement programs in his name.

Tom is survived by his wife Darlene, son Scott (Tiffany), son Todd, son Chad (Jenny), daughter Amy (Scott), 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Anne (Phil) Maurer, and beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Paul and Marjorie Phillips, son Steve, daughter Cindy, and grandson Jason.

A special thank you to Barnes Jewish Hospital, the doctors and nurses at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, and to Agrace Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. Tom was most proud of his family, and cherished friendships old and new.

"Tom, you have been a loving and giving husband and father, and a pillar of strength. I love you with all my heart, Dar"
