Stoughton- Thelma A. Stolen, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Skaalen Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Cottage Grove on March 15, 1914, the daughter of James and Mina (Torgeson) Olson. Thelma was united in marriage to Tom Stolen on January 26, 1935. Together they farmed all their lives in Pleasant Springs on the family farm. Thelma was a member of West Koshkonong Lutheran Church and served on the Church council, Ladies Aid, the Rebecca Circle, the "quilters", and sang in the choir for 50 years. She volunteered her time to many associations, including Skaalen Nursing Home, 4H clubs, and to friends and relatives who needed help. Thelma is survived by her three sons, Doug (Linda) Stolen, Dave (Dia) Stolen and Steve (Mary) Stolen; four grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Ashe, Mike (Stacy) Stolen, Jennifer Stolen and Suzi (Mark) Roman; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom; two brothers, Edward and James Olson; and three sisters, Mary McGinnis Hoskings, Helen Wedekind and Alice Dean. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Skaalen Chapel, 400 N. Morris Street, Stoughton, with Rev. Richard Dowling officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of services on Saturday. Memorials may be made to West Koshkonong Lutheran Church, 1911 Koshkonong Road, Stoughton, WI, 53589, or to Skaalen Nursing and Rehabilitation. The family wishes to thank the staff of Skaalen for their dedicated years of wonderful care of Thelma.
