Thekla Wicke

Sun Prairie/Madison - Thekla A. Wicke, age 97, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on June 4, 1915 in Warrens, Wisconsin, the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Flunker) Hanke. Thekla was united in marriage to the Reverend Harold Wicke on October 23, 1940 in Hortonville, Wisconsin. For many years, she intermittently taught elementary school and piano lessons. She also enjoyed being a pastor's wife and all the duties that went along with his profession of serving the Lord and the church. Following their retirement they moved to Sun Prairie. Thekla truly loved her family and friends and enjoyed entertaining and cooking for them. Although her memory faded in recent years, she never lost her gentle good nature and sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Thekla is survived by her two children; Ann Swanson and Tim (Judy) Wicke all of Sun Prairie, four grandchildren; Kara (Jon) Sieg of Madison, David (Jennifer) Swanson of Charlestown, IN, Amelia (Kirk) Bogle of New Berlin and Matthew Wicke of Milwaukee, a great grandson; Alexander Swanson, a brother; Willis (Geraldine) Hanke of Backus, MN and a sister Joyce (Arthur) Schulz of New Ulm, MN. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Thekla was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold Wicke in 2008, three brothers; Gilbert, Paul, and Marvin Hanke, and a son-in-law; Robert Swanson. Funeral services will be held at EASTSIDE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2310 Independence Dr., Madison on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 11:00 am with Reverend Glen Schmiege officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Graveside services will follow at Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown on Friday, August 17, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Thekla to Eastside Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2310 Independence Dr., Madison, WI 53704 or to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711.
