Terence Steiger

Madison - Terence E. "Terry" Steiger, age 80, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on May 22, 1938, in Potosi, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur and Mabel (Grimesay) Steiger. Terry was united in marriage to Mary Jo Stauffacher on April 18, 1964.

Terry's professional life included graduating from UW Platteville as a Civil Engineer. He went on to spend 33 years working for the State of Wisconsin in the DNR, and then the Department of Architecture and Engineering in the University System. He retired in 1996 to enjoy his family and working at St. Maria Goretti.

His love of family included teaching his children and grandchildren to ski at Devils Head where he was on ski patrol for 33 years. He also enjoyed traveling and spent many years as a tour director with the Madison Boy Choir and Edgewood High School music department. Terry's love of singing led him to be a 30-year member of the Madison Diocesan Choir which led to many tours in the U.S. and Europe. He continued his love of music and travel leading Bus Tours to Chicago to see many plays. Terry spent his retiring years at St. Maria Goretti singing in the choir and also being part of the liturgical department. He also enjoyed cruising with good friends.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband and devoted father. Terry, a quiet man, could fix anything and found it hard to ask for help. "I'm not sleeping. I'm just resting my eyes."

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Steiger; his children, Ann Marie (Marvin) Hau, John (Allison) Steiger, and Colleen (CJ) Michaud; grandchildren, Eric and Isaac Hau, Paul, Emma, and Ben Steiger, Haile, Liam, Mary Ann, and Maybelle Michaud; a sister, Carol (Lyle) Hird; brothers, Ronald (Sherrie) Steiger and Roger (Penne) Steiger; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Paul.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Michael Burke presiding. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paul Steiger Memorial Scholarship Fund at Marquette University, Paul Steiger Scholarship at Edgewood High School or St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church.
