Susan Flores Sais-Fox, 62, passed away on April 22, 2025, in Madison, Wisconsin after a long, hard-fought battle with scleroderma. Susan was born on June 13, 1962, to Moses and Helen Sais (née Flores) in Los Angeles, California. After graduating from Bassett High School in 1980Her son, Thomas, was born in 1987, followed by her daughter, Alyse, in 1988. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2006. Susan became the first in her family to earn a college diploma, a bachelor’s degree in human resources information technology, which is the field where she spent most of her working career. Susan married Wayne Fox on June 24, 2014. Together, they moved to Wisconsin in 2024. Susan was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

Those who knew Susan will remember her for her zest for life and her fierce love for the people in it. She found joy in everyday things, especially in taking care of others. She was artistic and crafty, making homemade Halloween costumes for her children, and knitting blankets and baby hats for loved ones. She fully embraced her role as “Gammy” to her three grandchildren, happily baking cookies, drawing pictures, having dance parties, and rewatching movies with them. She was also quite adventurous—skiing, biking in the MS-150 ride from Houston to Austin, scuba-diving with sharks, and camping in her RV, among other things—and she could be mischievous, such as when she tried to toilet paper her high school as a senior prank (alas, it didn’t work out).

A planner at heart, Susan was always at least two steps ahead of everyone else. She delighted in picking out the perfect gift (often months ahead of time) and, somehow, always knew the best way to take care of those she loved. She also took great joy in spending time with her beloved dog, Finlay. Her energy seemed to be spent ever outward, and we were all the luckier for it.

Susan was a woman of deep faith, finding strength and grace in Jesus. She cultivated a strong relationship with God and encouraged those around her to do so as well. One of her favorite passages from the Bible was from Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Her personalized license plate for the last 30 years was “BE STILL”. She got numerous notes left on her windshield over the years and most would say something like, “thank you for your reminder plates, I needed that today”.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Fox; children, Thomas Hudson (Tiia Heikkinen), Alyse Hudson, and Brittany Fox (Nick Kamas); grandchildren, Victoria Hudson, Martin Kamas, and Natalie Kamas; parents, Moses and Helen Sais; and siblings, Mary Helen Medina (Billy), Esperanza Martin (Robert), and Moses Sais. She also leaves many other family members and dear friends who will deeply miss her.

Susan did not want a funeral, instead insisting the family hold a party with mimosas and pozole. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation.

Susan was a shining light in our lives. We mourn her passing and rejoice in her going home to the Lord. In honor of Susan, have a mimosa with just a spritz of orange juice, hold on tightly to those you love, and, most of all, give thanks to God that life can be so beautiful.

Please share your memories of Susan by posting in her Guestbook.
