Susan K. Edwards, born April 12th 1948, passed away on May 18th 2018 due to complications following an operation. Her passing was peaceful; surrounded by her family and friends. Susan was born in Indiana, and raised in Baraboo, WI. She attended UW Madison and received her undergraduate degree in Social Work. She continued her education at the University of Alabama, where she received her Masters degree in Social Work. She returned to WI to be near friends and family. Susan served children and families in the community as a Social Worker for over 35 years with Dane County and then later, for the state of WI. Her career path helped many children find their forever homes through foster care and adoption. She later worked for Mendota Mental Health Institute, helping children and adolescents. She retired at the age of 66.
Susan loved spending time outside, especially hiking, camping and taking her dogs swimming at Devil's Lake State Park. She enjoyed international trips to England, Canada, and Chile. More locally, she enjoyed site seeing in Montana, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. Some of Susan's hobbies included knitting, gardening, and spending free time at some of Madison's many Public Libraries. Susan and her daughter Emilie, enjoyed going to The Farm in Door County every summer, camping at many of Wisconsin's state parks, and weekend visits to see her mom in Baraboo, WI. Susan is preceded in death by her father Jack H. Edwards and her mother Dorothy A. Edwards. She is survived by her daughter, Emilie Edwards, her sister Carol (Tom) Johnson, niece Heidi Johnson, and nephew Eric Johnson.
Susan was a loving mother to both her daughter and all of their four-legged family members. Her presence is sorely missed, but her laughter and memories stay with us.
The family will have an informal gathering to honor Susan on Sunday June 17th from 5:30-7:30pm at Westmorland Park. If you would like to make a donation in her name, please consider one of the following;
