Sung-Feng Wen

Madison - Dr. Sung-Feng Wen, age 83, passed away on May 14, 2016. He was born on March 3, 1933 in Hsin-chu, Taiwan, the son of Chi and Yueh-Eh Yu Wen.

He worked for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Medicine as a physician, teacher, and researcher in nephrology for 35 years. After training at the National Taiwan University College of Medicine, he immigrated to the US in 1962. He completed his medical training in Louisville and Chicago before working as a research fellow at McGill University in Montreal. He joined the faculty at UW-Madison in 1970 and published numerous articles over the course of his career. He was dedicated to the field of nephrology through the care of his patients and in his academic research.

After retiring as Professor Emeritus in 2005, he maintained an active interest in the medical field by regularly attending nephrology conferences and weekly lectures at UW Hospital. In addition to his prolific professional life, he had many avid interests. He supported multiple organizations promoting a democratic Taiwan. He also enjoyed playing softball and organized informal weekly games beginning in the 1970's and continuing through his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lena; daughter Caroline of Chicago; daughter June Albright (Dan) of Palatine, IL; brothers Wen-Yang Wen of Worcester, MA, and Chi-Pang Wen of Houston, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Chin-Yung Wen. A thoughtful and generous man, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
