Steven Mihelich

March 6, 1959 — February 27, 2013

Former Anchorage resident Steven M. Mihelich, 53, died February 27, 2013, in Madison, Wisconsin after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
A service and burial is planned for May in Tower, Minnesota.
Mr. Mihelich was born March 6, 1959 in Wurzburg, Germany, to John M. and Brigitta Mihelich.
In August, 1972 he moved to Alaska with his family. He attended grade school and East High School in Anchorage. After high school Steve joined the Army National Guard which he served for 23 years. During his service, Steve worked his way up to SSG and Crew Chief/Maintenance Technician on Blackhawk Helicopters. He was role model and mentor to many that followed him and they looked up to him for his dedication and love of the Guard.
After retiring from the Guard, Mr. Mihelich worked with a contractor and was able to continue working on Blackhawk helicopters.
He had lived in Anchorage for 34 years when he moved to Madison in 2005.
His family wrote: Steve loved cooking for his friends and family, snow machining with his son Ryan, fine scale modeling and exploring any new place he visited. He found ways to enjoy life's simple pleasures and taught others to take time and to smell the roses. He also showed loved and support to everyone he met. We will forever miss our arctic warrior and hero.
Mr. Mihelich is survived by his son Ryan Mihelich; parents John and Brigitta Mihelich; partner Janet Mink; sister Debbie Mihelich; brother James Mihelich; nephew, Shawn Mihelich and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Mihelich was preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel and John.
The family requests memorial donations be sent to Wounded Warrior Project ( www.woundedwarriorproject.org ) or University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center ( www.uwhealth.org ).
