Steven F. Loofboro

July 2, 1955 — June 15, 2023

Madison

Madison-Steven F. Loofboro, age 67, passed away on June 15, 2023, from complications of diabetes.   He was born July 2, 1955, the son of Edwin and Rita Loofboro.    He grew up in Wisconsin Dells and as a young man, moved to Florida where he worked as a salesman in the construction industry.    In January, he moved to Madison to live with his sister and brother-in-law.  Steve’s medical journey started when Hurricane Ian damaged his home in North Fort Myers, FL; with amyotrophy (a rare and painful form of diabetic neuropathy), he developed a painful ulcer, then osteomyelitis of his foot, needing amputation.  Throughout this time, Steve remained optimistic and committed to dealing with these issues.  He was dedicated to making progress that would allow the fitting of a prosthesis and return to a more normal, independent life.

Steve was extremely proud of his children and enjoyed a visit from both recently.  He was able to spend thoughtful time with his son, Ian.  He also enjoyed his visit with his daughter, Haven and her husband, Joshua.  Steve was thrilled to meet his six-month-old grandson, Pierce; they formed an immediate bond.

Steve is survived by his children, Haven (Joshua) Campbell-Cottle and Ian Loofboro; grandson, Pierce Cottle; siblings Linda (Bernard) Micke and Larry Loofboro; special cousin David Dearborn; and nephews Logan (Samantha) Irons, Ethan, Keenan, and Bronte Loofboro.   He is further survived by other relatives and friends.     He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Loofboro and Rita Havey; step-father, George Havey and his brother Billy.

There will be a visitation held on Wednesday, June 28 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, from 10:30am until the time of the memorial service at 11:30 am.   In honor of Steve’s love of nature, memorials may be made in Steve’s name to Wisconsin Green Fire (https://wigreenfire.app.neoncrm.com/forms/10).

Steve’s family would like to thank Agrace Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care.
