Steve Mentel

February 9, 1973 — May 21, 2024

Steve A. Mentel, age 51, born to eternal life on May 21, 2024.  He was born on February 9, 1973 to John and Mary (Frohna) Mentel.  Steve grew up in Greenfield, WI.  Steve loved playing the piano growing up.  Steve graduated from Pius XI High School, and UW-Whitewater, where he majored in Accounting.

Steve married the love of his life Heather on October 13, 2001.  They welcomed daughters Katherine and Grace in 2004.  Steve was a beloved husband, a great father, brother, uncle, and friend.   Steve loved being a Dad and cherished his time with his family.  Steve made it his focus in life to always be there for his girls – Heather, Katherine, and Grace.   You often found Steve on the sidelines of the girls’ soccer games, and even traveled as far as Germany with the family for the girls to play their favorite sport.  Steve’s happy place was the family lake house, where he would sit for hours on the beach hanging out with his girls or watching his dogs Ginger and Rockie.  Steve enjoyed bowling, golfing, and softball with his friends.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Heather; daughters Katherine and Grace; dogs, Rockie and Ginger; sister Janet (Wayne) Vandenbergh; in-laws, Chuck and Ann Donegan; brother-in-law George (Mandi) Donegan; nephews, Jacob Vandenbergh, and Parker Donegan; Uncle, Ron Frohna; and many cousins.  He will be missed by his many friends who he considered family including Elliott, Matt, Bob, Kevin and Jeri; bowling, golf, and softball friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, John; mother, Mary, grandparents, Rudy and Phyllis Frohna, Andrew and Helen Mentel; Aunts, Uncles, cousins; and his beloved dog Jake.

A mass will be held for Steve on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 at 11am at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Madison, WI.   Visitation will be at church starting at 9 am.

Steve’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the B4/6 Transplant Team for their exceptional care and support.  They also wish to thank a very special group of nurses, (Greta, Kristin, Maddie, Annie and Hannah) who not only took great care Steve, but gave comfort and care to his beloved girls as well.
