Stephen O. Meyer

We post this obituary with heavy hearts to announce that our beloved Stephen O. Meyer has unexpectedly passed away. A man who is easily described as gregarious, bright-eyed, and generous with his time, charming, and able to participate in a witty banter that was difficult to match.

He is well known on Madison's East side as an active member of the Atwood Community Gardens. According to our humble calculations, he was involved with this community-building project from 1999 to 2024. He played a significant role in the A.C.G. acquiring its first water main, a story his family hopes to share publicly.

Steve was interested in Astronomy, often going out at night to study the sky. He was easily recognizable as a member of the Madison Astronomical Society, always involved in their outreach star parties. Upon his retirement, he volunteered during the day at the Yanna Research Station.

He was survived by his wife (of 53 years), Jean B. Meyer, his daughter, Elsa Meyer, his brother, Michael Meyer, two brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.

His family will host a celebration of life at Olbrich Gardens on April 27th from 1 to 5 p.m., with speakers set to begin at 2 p.m.
