Sun Prairie - Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Stanley A. Blatter, age 93, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on November 18, 1923, in Janesville, Wisconsin, the son of Christian and Elsie (Albright) Blatter.
On December 1, 1942, Stanley enlisted in the Army Air Force and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands at Adak Island, during WWII. He served as a weather observer and Teletype Repairman and attained the rank of Sergeant. After returning home from the war, on January 5, 1946, Stanley was happily united in marriage to Dorothy (Lynch). He was honorably discharged from service on January 13, 1946. Stanley worked as a tool and die maker for the Eaton Corporation (Durant) in Watertown. While there, he crafted a complicated mold of a rectangular counter that made it to the moon, during The 1969 Apollo moon mission. He retired in 1985, after working 24 years. He moved to Madison and continued as a tool and die maker, with Rayovac, part-time for 13 years. Stanley enjoyed his retirement, especially the driving trip that he and Dorothy took out west, in their sporty white MG convertible.
Stanley was a member of the Izaak Walton League, the American Legion Post #333 in Sun Prairie, and the VFW Post 8483 in Madison. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, biking and playing cards, particularly Sheepshead. He was an early advocate of "The Rail to Trail" movement, and a voracious reader, especially on topics of The Civil War and WWII. Stanley was a kind man, who loved and was proud of his entire family. He had a sharp intellect and a mind of steel. He considered himself extremely fortunate to have participated, in the 2009 honor flight for Veterans of WWII, which visited the WWII Memorial, in Washington D.C. Stanley was deeply loved and will forever be missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Janet (John) Lietz, sons, Richard (Susan) Blatter, and Thomas (Debbie Bordson-Blatter) Blatter; eleven grandchildren, Jason (Jenny) Leitz, Justin (Melissa) Lietz, Jamey (Stacy) Lietz, Christina (Ben) Goins, Terri (Paul) Faes, Richard (Kami) Blatter II, Robert (Rebecca) Blatter, Daniel (Lori) Blatter, David (LeeAnn) Blatter, Adam (Frances Macaulay) Blatter and Jessica Blatter; twenty-one great-grandchildren; Daryn, Aiden, Allison, Ashler, Caitlyn, Connor, Taylor and Logan Lietz; Cason and Taylor Goins; Alex, Savanah and William Damron; Klaryissa, Kendra, Sadie, Abigail, Dereck, Hayden and Isaac Blatter, and Corinna Faes; a sister, Mabel Hein; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
